Torrevieja was a fantastic place to sail, not only because we managed to hike out for the first time in about 3 months, but the fact that the event was well organised, the weather was nice and it was home to the worlds largest paella dish available for the sailors after sailing! After a training day in 25-30 knots of breeze, coming off the land, we joined up with the Dutch team for a few races before we headed in, exhausted and ready to get a big nights sleep! We woke up to day one with the sun shining and a strong breeze from the land once again. The team made good use of their knowledge with most of the team ending the first day in the top 15, after executing perfect starts and strong first upwind legs. Day 2 saw more challenging conditions, with many boats being black flagged, the race committee did well to manage to complete all of the 3 races necessary for each flight, meaning that the final day would see the fleet split into gold, silver and bronze. With the whole team in gold fleet, the team set out on the last day, hoping to go home with some top results. Light, flukey winds and busy starts saw most of the team have a tough day, with the wind shifting 180 degrees across the day. Overall, the team out in some solid results, thanks to a fantastic race committee, well organised people and finally our coach, Pieter.
