Matthieu started sailing on a small but well known lake in Heusden Belgium. In the Youth classes he quickly went from the Optimist to the 420, in which he was selected for several European and World Championships. From the 420 he made the logical step to the 470, crewing for his brother and starting to compete in the big events of the Olympic Circuit and got qualified for the 2007 ISAF World Championships.
After that event, Matthieu made another switch to the 49er, the High Performance Olympic Dinghy, sailing with Yannick Lefèbvre. Starting from scratch they quickly reached the Gold Fleet (top 25) at the bigger events such as the Wolrd Cup’s in Palma, Hyères, Medemblik and Kiel. The team’s highest overall position was 5th at the World Cup in Kiel.
Besides Dinghy sailing Matthieu also sailed on big boats, and he was a team member of several well respected teams, winning different events on different positions.
Last but not least Matthieu already has experience as a coach, coaching different sailors in different classes (Cadet, 420, 49er…).
